I
have been an LAPD Reserve Police Officer for approximately seven years
and I am currently assigned to Air Support Division. During this time,
I have been involved in a multitude of projects and assignments.
As a teenager growing up in the City of Los Angeles, I had two passions,
one of which was attending air shows and the other was my interest in
law enforcement, primarily Air Support.
As an LAPD Reserve Officer assigned to Air Support Division, my dream
has come true. We have joined forces with the LAPD Recruitment Team
and together we attend many Southern California Air Shows for the purposes
of recruitment and public relations. Educating the public and explaining
why Air Support is flying over their homes has done wonders for the
citizens in gaining a better understanding of our mission. Air Support
primarily flies over the city so the citizens of Los Angeles rarely
get the opportunity to ask questions, see the helicopter up close or
talk with Air Support personnel. Speaking and interacting with the citizens
of the community is the most important tool law enforcement utilizes
and one that I truly enjoy. I take great pleasure in this assignment
and always look forward to the next event.
Another fortunate opportunity for me has been my
assignment with the Military Acquisition Unit. We travel to many Military
bases around Southern California and acquire surplus military equipment
that the Police Department uses. Outfitting this equipment to many
of the specialized units within the Department, allows me to greatly
assist them in accomplishing their missions. This assignment has presented
many opportunities for me. I have the ability to travel, meet military
personnel, assist the department and truly enjoy my volunteer career
in law enforcement.
These are just a few of the assignments that I work on a regular basis
for the Department.
I am very lucky that my full-time career in property management has
given me the freedom to enjoy my volunteer career in law enforcement.
My family has always been supportive of me and they know that everything
that I do for the Department and community has a positive impact on
us all. I sincerely encourage everyone to get involved in some type
of volunteer work.
Being a Reserve Officer for the LAPD has been the most enjoyable, fulfilling
and rewarding career that I have ever experienced.
